ReLANpro Room Preparation
Power Requirements
The power requirements of the ReLANpro lab are best divided into the two areas of the power required for the ReLANpro teacher computer and AV devices and the power requirements for student computers and monitors.
The power requirements for your ReLANpro lab are easily provided for in the form of a quad box outlet, which should be located adjacent to the instructor console. The quad box outlet will be adequate to supply the power for the teacher computer, two monitors, and any ancillary equipment connected to the instructor console (i.e. DVDs, laser disk players or VCRs).
It is the responsibility of the school to run power in the rows of student cubicles and provision must be made to have a duplex outlet in each of the student booths. Power is generally brought to the "end" of the row of student cubicles at the point where the other cables & networking and signal cables enter into the row.
Power outlets should be planned at the end of each row. A minimum of a quad outlet box should be provided at the end of each row.
Networking Cables
The ReLANpro requires networking cables for the teacher’s computer and each student computer. Provision should be made for networking cables to enter each row of student furniture so as to be connected to each student PC.
Preparing the Room
It is wise to have conduits running from the area of the teacher console to each row of student furniture. With this provision made the data cables for the local area networking can easily be installed. We can advise the architect where these runs should be placed when the room is selected.
As the computers and monitors will be generating extra heat, provision should be made for increased AC capacity. LCD screens can be installed in lieu of CRT (glass) monitors as they generate much less heat and conserve electricity.
It is best to plan for carpeting as this will improve the aesthetic value of the lab and also reduce ambient noise.
